WE ASKED EVERYONE QUESTIONS – HERE’S WHAT THEY HAD TO SAY:

4. Do you know a fun fact about South Africa?

Margarete (General Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2017): The clouds on Devils Peak is the devil smoking his pipe. South Africa has the most white cars on earth (cheaper in insurance and better for the sun).

Bernadetta (Senior Recruiter, from Poland, has been in Cape Town since 2015): Not so funny at the beginning… when you’re invited to a braai you should snack on something small beforehand. Because you’ll WAIT for food. Once presented with a plate full of goodies you won’t regret it though. So worth it!

David (Immigration Case Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2012): Dassies, the cute little rodents living on Table Mountain and Lions Head, are the closest living relative to Elephants.

Tanja (Intern, from Germany, arrived in April 2019): The Lions head is not called Lions head because of the shape of the hill it’s because there used to walk lions around.

Lisa (Intern, from Germany, arrived in March 2019):  South Africa is the only country in the world to have hosted the Soccer, Cricket and Rugby World Cup!

5. What is your favorite South African food and why?

Margarete (General Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2017): Squids. I love sea food and they prepare it lovely.

Bernadetta (Senior Recruiter, from Poland, has been in Cape Town since 2015): I don’t have anything specific in mind, all sort of food is always well received 🙂 but I absolutely love Biltong Chili Bites. Ones from local farms in Northern Cape are the best.

David (Immigration Case Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2012): Milk tart, hot cross buns, biltong, koeksisters, … I don’t even know where to start!

Kristina (Immigration Case Manager, from Russia, has been in Cape Town since 2000): Nothing beats a braai or a potjiekos

Tanja (Intern, from Germany, arrived in April 2019): Cape Malayan rotties!

Lisa (Intern, from Germany, arrived in March 2019): Milk tart!!! You can find it everywhere in South Africa but I have never tried it  until we ate it at work and i totally fell in love with it!

6. Is there anything that you miss from your homeland that you cannot find in South Africa/Cape Town?

Margarete (General Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2017): Hearty cheese, creative shopping, Schmutzradierer, Spelt!!!!

Bernadetta (Senior Recruiter, from Poland, has been in Cape Town since 2015): FOOD! I miss Polish food, anything from home made smoked cheese to variety of bread and soups only my mum knows how to make. Let’s not forget the snow. Proper Polish winter (only for few days) to enjoy random ‘angel’ making and sliding down the hill. Playing in snow will awake your inner child. Lastly, I miss my little town and all places I used to explore with my siblings.

David (Immigration Case Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2012): I really miss my two favourite German foods, Maultaschen and Milchschnitte. If anyone knows where to get those here, let me know!

Kristina (Immigration Case Manager, from Russia, has been in Cape Town since 2000): I miss sometime culture, like theather, possibility to travel for weekends; and of course your home is your home (it cannot be replaced)

Tanja (Intern, from Germany, arrived in April 2019): Actually everything is better here so unfortunately I’m not missing something.

Lisa (Intern, from Germany, arrived in March 2019): I miss walking home after visiting restaurants and bars at night…

7. One thing I will be doing this winter is…

Margarete (General Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2017):… enjoying the beautiful sun rises and sunsets which are more intense in winter. Braai and chilling next to the fire. Going to all the so called “winter special”. Cheaper options as the tourist are not there.

Bernadetta (Senior Recruiter, from Poland, has been in Cape Town since 2015): Although I love the seas side, I’m looking forward to spending time hiking with my daughter and visiting Namaqualand Flower Route in September.

David (Immigration Case Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2012): Go for many nice long runs outside – sunny Cape Town winter days are perfect for that!

Kristina (Immigration Case Manager, from Russia, has been in Cape Town since 2000): Drink wine at new wine farms, discover new art galleries and finding new restaurants.

Tanja (Intern, from Germany, arrived in April 2019):…Whale watching

Lisa (Intern, from Germany, arrived in March 2019): I definitely want to go to the Labia Theater in Cape Town. It is the oldest cinema in South Africa and one of the only places which sell hot wine in winter 🙂

8. Why do you love to live in Cape Town?

Margarete (General Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2017): It combines beautiful nature and activities, different cultures and my beloved work place on one spot. Perfect work life balance. I also like that Cape town has a big spiritual community and understanding.

Bernadetta (Senior Recruiter, from Poland, has been in Cape Town since 2015): I love to live in Cape Town for many reasons, whatever the mood one can enjoy the beach, go for a hike with breathtaking views, visit reach in history museums or have great food and drink at Waterfront. Our amazing Mother City gives you an opportunity to meet people from various walks of life, learn about their heritage, language and interests.

David (Immigration Case Manager, from Germany, has been in Cape Town since 2012): I really like the huge variety of great restaurants we have in Cape Town. I particularly enjoy that so many restaurants and bars come up with really unique, innovative and quirky concepts not only for their food and drinks but also their décor and overall vibe.

Athina (Immigration administrator, from South Africa): Beautiful scenery everywhere you go.

Kristina (Immigration Case Manager, from Russia, has been in Cape Town since 2000): Because I love cape town

Tanja (Intern, from Germany, arrived in April 2019): Because all locals are so friendly, nature is stunning and the general way of life suits my character perfectly.

Lisa (Intern, from Germany, arrived in March 2019): The mountains, the sea, the vibe in the city bowl, the markets and for sure the food. Llandudno beach for sundowners, swimming with the penguins at Boulders and drinking wine at wine estates. (I could still mention so much more)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
